Digital In-The-Ear Hearing Protection

If you’re over 30 or have combat or unprotected shooting experience, you probably already have some hearing damage. I do, and it’s made me a fanatic about hearing protection. I’ve been using electronic ambient-sound-amplifying, gunshot-suppressing range muffs for years, but always wished they could be more secure and less bulky — especially running action drills and when shooting long guns.
LaPierre/Starkey Laboratories offers digital, in-the-ear SoundGear, which amplifies normal environmental sound levels while suppressing potentially damaging sounds, like gunshots, with a 25 dB NRR rating.

Based on my testing so far, their performance is absolutely fantastic, with a significant increase in amplification, and excellent gunshot suppression. I wouldn’t hesitate to wear them in a tactical situation. Battery insertion and removal is easy, and the set includes two sizes of plug “sleeves” and a battery-removal tool in a compact case. MSRP is $899; they’re not cheap, but a “sound investment”! www.americancopmagazine.com/sound-gear-hearing
