Twice As Much

After much foot-stomping and desk-pounding demands by you (and, frankly, our advertising clients) we’ve elected to take American COP monthly. While this will be a bunch more work for staffers here, we’re looking forward to it in some weird, semi-demented way. Call it self-gratification or simply the fact we’re tired of you writing or calling Suzi, demanding more stuff in every issue. Either way, the monthly format will allow us to get you more of the info you need, delivered more frequently — especially when time might count.

There are some mechanics involved regarding printing, postage, how many columns can fit into each issue and such, but when the dust settles, you’ll be receiving twice as many issues of COP each year. We’ll continue to hit, with large-caliber rounds, at all the topics you need to stay safe, but won’t waste time on nonsense in order to merely waste paper.

We’re also reaching out to even more chiefs and leaders of all sorts, both to make sure those leaders see the gear you need to do your job, but to also make sure we have their ears. While we’ve always had a strong mix of “job doers” and “leaders” (input is needed from both sides to evaluate gear, tactics, training and the rest), Jerry Boyd’s new column, From The Chief, will help provide some perspective — for all sides. As a retired chief, Jerry’s been there and isn’t afraid to tell it like it is, in first person, strong language if needed. He’ll help to keep us all honest about facing what you do every day. And he can “speak Chief” — so administrators will listen too.

Here at COP, we’ve always let the cards fall where they may, because the truth is always a powerful tool. While some might squirm a bit, cough uncomfortably a time or two (“Did he really just say that?”) or sorta’ peek out from the curtains to see what’s going to happen, what always ensues is: things get better!
